A golden bridge to the Castle of Bálványos once connected this castle, and the beautiful Ilona Fairy walked there.
At a height of 565 m above sea level, the settlement on the river with the same name was declared a town in 1952. Later, in 1968, it became the naming settlement for the county as well. The valley to the east of the spa town is justly called Tündérvölgy. In one of the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains, Várhegy, wall remains indicate that once there was a hiding place here.
The locals call these ruins the Castle of Fairy Ilona. According to tradition, plenty of gold hidden in the cellars. However, it is not easy to go down there, since its door only opens every seven years on St. George’s night.
