Hiking in the Land of Volcanoes

Csik chair Miercurea - Ciuc Miercurea Ciuc, jud. Harghita

We invite you to visit the richest corner in natural resources in the Eastern Carpathians, where volcanoes and post-volcanic phenomena have resulted in some unique wonders of nature, creating an enchanted world. Tinovul Mohoş, a crater of almost 80 hectares in the Ciomad Mountains is our first stop, where we discover how this area of special vegetation was born, admire the picturesque waterholes, learn about botanical rarities from the Ice Age such as carnivorous plants.

From the edge of the crater we descend to Lake Sfânta Ana, which is also unique in that it is the only volcanic lake in Central and Eastern Europe. After a boat ride or around the lake, there is a trip to the Balvanyos area on Mount Puturosu, where following the tourist trail we can climb through the forest to the largest natural cave in Europe, the Puturosu Cave. The former sulfur mine emits more than 4000 cubic meters of sulfuric gas daily. From here we continue our way to the Apor Girls' Baths, where we encounter a multitude of natural springs with a unique chemical composition in Europe, here we can cool off and benefit from the healing power of nature. The tour can be completed on request with a nearby bear den or craft beer tasting at a local brewery.
