The village center, 10 km from Kézdivásárhely, has 3500 Hungarian inhabitants. It is made up of two geographically distinct parts of the settlement: the Lower and the Upper Csernát.
Its area was long inhabited, archaeological finds were found in the 5th and 6th centuries. century, then the Slavs and the conquering Hungarians.
Both parts of the village offer many attractions for tourists.
The Millennium Monument and the Stone of Remembrance are located in a small park in the center of Lower Csernát. They engrave the years that must remain memorable for the Szekler people, whether they are joy or sorrow.
The Roman Catholic church of the settlement was built in 1844 by János Zámbler. Our Church Day is celebrated on August 6, the day of Our Lord's Transfiguration.
In the eastern part of the village, next to the international road, stands the 1872 Orthodox Church of St. George.
Other interesting places are the numerous manor houses in the settlement, such as the Damokos Dénes mansion, the Damokos-Czech mansion, the Wolf house or the Bernáld mansion.
The double-arched stone bridge on Múzeum Street, built in 1907, is also a historic building.
The Reformed Church of Felsőcsernáton stands on the high terrace of the Nagy brook. On its inner wall, a white marble plaque commemorates the village's birthplace, Reformed pastor Peter Bod.
The title of its Roman Catholic church is the Grandmother of Hungarians.
Two monumental Szekler gates, one of which is located in front of the cultural home, are of interest to tourists. This was found by the museum's founder, id. Made by Pál Haszmann in 1942. The other, Bardocz András Gate, is in front of house 920.
In the woods above the village, healing sulfuric mineral waters come to the surface, one of which has a beach bath at some time. This was the Kiss of the Feather.
